Installing Windows Accessories

Windows offers many small programs called "Accessories." These programs are the ones you'll find when you click Start(or Orb)/All Programs/Accessories. By default, many commonly used accessories are installed. However, there are some accessories that are not installed in a typical Windows installation.

To install more accessories, go to:

  • XP — Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs
  • Vista: Orb/Control Panel/Turn Windows features on or off (lower left corner)

In XP, the second tab in this window is called "Windows Setup." In this box, there is a list of optional components, or accessories, which can be added. To add any of the available components, highlight the desired category, click Details, and check the box of any program you want that is not already checked. Lastly, click Okay to begin the installation.

You will may need your Windows CD in the drive when you click Okay so it can copy the needed files.
